“A remedy for masturbation which is almost always successful in small boys is circumcision. The operation should be performed by a surgeon without administering an anaesthetic, as the brief pain attending the operation will have a salutary effect upon the mind, especially if it be connected with the idea of punishment. In females, the author has found the application of pure carbolic acid to the clitoris an excellent means of allaying the abnormal excitement.” (John Harvey Kellogg, M.D., “Treatment for Self-Abuse and its Effects,” Plain Fact for Old and Young. Burlington, Iowa: F. Segner & Co. (1888). P. 295)
“To advance the education of the public in all matters relating to circumcision and other forms of surgical alteration of the genitals, including alternative treatments and offering information and advice on such matters.”
15 Square Inches is the average surface area of an adult male foreskin.
“Such common and unquestioned practice leads people to bluster about circumcision in the same callous tones that old blunderbusses used to talk about the caning of boys at school before it was outlawed: “Never did me any harm. Can’t see what all the fuss is about. What a sensitive plant you must be if you care about such a trivial matter.”
Would such pitiless complacency be disturbed by the evidence heard in Westminster Coroner’s Court in 2012 on the death of Angelo Ofori Mintah, aged 28 days, who lost two-thirds of his blood following circumcision (the Rabbi suggested his parents should staunch his wound with Vaseline)? Would a hair of that smugness be turned by the case of Goodluck Caubergs, who bled to death in 2010 aged 27 days after his mother paid a midwife £100 to hack off his foreskin with a pair of scissors?”
