Circumstitions Ritual Myths 2 Abraham transforms sacrifice of firstborn to sacrifice of penis blood, Moses mimics Egyptians

Child FGM is only practised in cultures where child MGM happens too.
While UK law protects girls from genital mutilation – there is no law for boys..
For those who are unaware of why various religious groups do MGM … They normally cite Abraham’s circumcision, age 90+, (he’s not a baby notice) (Majority of Muslims, most Jews, and some Christians hold this rite dear) the story’s told in the Old Testament..

MGM done as a mark of contract with his god and as a tribal mark for the important, the male,  members of the tribe.

GM was well established prior to Abraham’s time. (Genesis 17)

Its significance was as a serious contract, “signed” in penis blood for dramatic effect, as was the established custom, so it was then a “pagan” habit, that is, it was used by Abraham because it was already an ancient mark of contract or rite of passage in the Middle East *prior* to his awareness of the one god revelation.

Rather like European Christianity took over the time of the Pagan Winter Solstice celebrations to celebrate Christ’s birth, Abraham took an already meaningful rite and appropriated it for Judaism, and Islam, and for some Christians..

Abraham can be regarded as the father of all three branches of the one god fits all theory that has been popular for the past three millennia.

Abraham was divinely inspired to MGM his male slaves too – although most Rabbis agree (for once) that this did not make the slaves Jews. So applying reverse logic here .. circumcision is not the defining feature of male Jewishness.

The Blood Libel and Genital Cutting

MGM has caused Judaism problems many times over the centuries – we know that the Rabbis were primitively aware of haemophilia (guaranteed death of cut baby) because if two sons die – the family is not required to cut a third son under Jewish law – they knew that kids could die but carry on regardless. This was no doubt cause of some of the persecution of Jews in times gone by – accused of child sacrifice as dead babies sometimes happened for real – several Jewish Historians have written about this.

Child abuse is a cyclic thing carried out down the generations … If you base your religion on this blood ritual – it degrades it and you and the society that allows child abuse for religion – it is also sexist – girls can’t make the covenant with the iron age idol, Yahweh/Moloch

George Wald: One of America’s Greatest Teachers

Jewish Nobel Laureate in Physiology and Medicine (1967) and beloved Harvard biology professor, George Wald,  1975 essay, “Circumcision”: ** Here are just a few sentences from that profound essay:

“… It seems to me that a final consideration might bear upon this problem. Child sacrifice (to ‘Moloch’) was a common rite among the ancient peoples of the Near East, and Jews were forbidden it in the harshest terms (Leviticus 20: 1-2). When God laid claim to all firstborn males, he specified that though those of the domestic animals were to be sacrificed, children were to be redeemed. As Moses, having been instructed by God, explained to the people:‘I sacrifice to the Lord all the males that first open the womb; but all the first-born of my sons I redeem’ (Exodus 13: 15). And one of the ordinances that God gave to Moses along with the Ten Commandments states: ‘The firstborn of your sons you shall give to me. You shall do likewise with your oxen and your sheep: seven days it shall be with its dam; on the eighth day you shall give it to me’ (Exodus 22: 29).

“That command to sacrifice the male firstborn of a domestic animal, taking it from its mother when it is eight days old, makes one wonder whether the prescribed circumcision of sons on the eighth day was once a form of redemption, the token sacrifice of the foreskin to substitute for sacrifice of the child. In any case the principle of redemption runs through these commandments, not only the obligatory redemption of sons, but ‘every firstling of an ass you shall redeem with a lamb…’ (Exodus 13: 13).

“It is with the greatest hesitation, since I have no right and know so little, that I should like to suggest to my fellow Jews that perhaps the time has come to redeem the foreskin itself, rather than sacrifice it. Surely some substitute might be found for this rite, … that would be preferable to this assault upon and mutilation of a newborn infant…”

Nowhere in the Koran itself does it say “Cut off the tip of your son’s wedding tackle”, or words to that effect. GM of both genders of Muslims has since become more popular in some Muslim cultures. But it’s not mentioned in the Koran itself explicitly.

The New Testament states GM is not needed to be a Christian – but some nostalgic Christians still do it for authenticity – as Jesus, being Jewish, was almost certainly unhooded.

Moses was not circumcised.

Joshua and his band circumcised themselves as adults – forming the “Hill of foreskins”

” … Zipporah took a flint knife, cut off her son’s foreskin and touched Moses’ feet
with it. “Surely you are a bridegroom of blood to me,”

Zipporah’s tale is a little strange… It could be seen as propaganda for Jewish Mums to convince them MGM is good in the eyes of Yahweh (god of the old testament)..
