Canadian Journal of Urology: Are physicians performing neonatal circumcisions well-trained?

Quite shocking to read that most of the Canadian Doctors in this study of surgical method and training had not received formal training for conducting infant MGM, and know less than might be expected about when not to do it …

Great that the medical community addressed the training issue after the study but sad that nobody thinks of the rights of the children here …

” … Conclusions: Our survey findings indicate that most physicians performing neonatal circumcisions in our community have received informal and unstructured training. This lack of formal instruction may explain the complications and unsatisfactory results witnessed in our pediatric urology practice. Many practitioners are not aware of the contraindications to neonatal circumcision and most non-surgeons perform the procedure without being able to handle common post-surgical complications. Based on our survey findings, we planned and carried out a formal training course to address these issues.”

Ten Horrifically Botched Circumcisions

Harrowing reading. Anyone who has seen a male leap around after catching himself in his trouser zipper will be able to imagine the unnecessary pain and mutilation involved.

Circumcision is one of the most common and historic surgical procedures in the world, dating as far back as ancient Egypt. More Than 130 Rabbis Offer ‘Brit Shalom’ For Intact Jewish Sons

Modern American Judaism is seeking alternatives to genital mutilation for welcoming a baby to this world …
If you need more evidence that a new generation of young American Jewish parents are bypassing circumcision and keeping their sons intact, while still honouring their Judaism, here it is. A list of Rabbis and other Jewish leaders who perform a bris, without circumcision has grown to record numbers. Over 215 officiants are now available, all over the world, to perform the peaceful welcoming event for Jewish parents. More than 130 of these are rabbis. Many of these officiants are members of the Reform, Humanistic, Renewal, and Reconstructionist Jewish movements. Not all of the officiants on the list are opposed to circumcision, but many are. Several Rabbis on the list have intact grandsons, much to the surprise of many, a couple even have intact sons themselves.

Extreme trauma from male circumcision causes damage to areas of brain

“A team of nurses approached Dr. Paul Tinari, PhD, of Kingston General Hospital in Ontario, Canada, to make him aware of something which they had been observing for quite some time. Many of the newborn baby boys circumcised at the hospital were exhibiting excruciating levels of pain so severe, the nurses reported, that the behaviour of these children seemed to be changing in a tangible and possibly permanent way.”

Doctors claim legalising some genital mutilation may help girls

Doctors claim legalising some genital mutilation may help girls

“Should any kind of female genital mutilation be legal? Two US-based gynaecologists are arguing that legalising less severe forms of the surgery could protect girls from more extreme operations, but most ethicists and medics are against the proposal.

Worldwide, around 3 million girls every year are subjected to genital mutilation, mostly in parts of Africa, the Middle East and Asia. The practice can range in severity from nicking genitals to removing the clitoris and labia then stitching up most of the vagina.”
